It’s time to get rid of Senator Arlen Spector. The 79 year old Pennsylvania Senator has lost any connection he might have had with his constituents by casting two abhorrent votes in the United States Senate in the last few weeks.
Several weeks ago, Spector sided with liberal Senate Democrats by voting for Obama’s $787 billion, pork laden, ‘stimulus’ bill. Two weeks later, despite thousands of calls from Pennsylvania residents, Spector again sided with liberal Democrats in the Senate Judiciary Committee by voting to approve that former porn industry lawyer, Assistant Attorney General nominee David Ogden be sent to the Senate floor.
Even after Spector’s office admitted that he received over 11,000 phone calls objecting to Ogden’s nomination, Spector defended his Senate Judiciary vote. He contended that a lawyer has his prerogative to defend. But this is different. David Ogden is being nominated to be the 2nd in command at the Justice Department. As Senator Judiciary member Orin Hatch (R-Utah) contended, Odgen’s service to the ‘sex industrial complex’ “is consistent and the record is so long that it gives me pause.”
With a 14-5 Judiciary Committee approval, Ogden’s floor Senate nomination is almost assured. Says author and WND writer, Dr. Judith Reisman, “don’t expect a return to the kind of family and motherhood bias with (Obama’s) DOJ. Expect from this injustice department something like a return when the New York Court of Appeals legalized child pornography in the Ferber case.”
Several weeks earlier Spector betrayed Republican leader Mitch McConnell (R- Ky.) by voting for the Obama’s stimulus package. The bill was not even allowed public review by Democrat leaders until 10 hours before its House vote. So much talk for ‘an open and transparent government.’ None of the US Senators even read the bill despite the fact it is the largest and most expensive single piece of legislation in the country’s history. The bill pro-motes massive growth of government and de-emphasizes the very system (capitalism) that has helped make our country great. How could anyone vote ‘yes’ on legislation like this?
This $787 billion bill mortgages not only our children’s future but the future of their children! Yet Senator Spector discounted thousands of his own
constituents. He blithely ignored the voices of the people he serves. Instead, he chose to side with two other Republican turncoats from Maine; Snowe and Collins, to make the vote and subsequent piece of legislation happen. Without their support, Obama’s government largess bill would not have succeeded.
It is any wonder that so many Americans are furious with this Senator?
I know. I tried to call his office (in Washington DC) for 2 days. Morning or afternoon, I could not get it. His lines were jammed with angry, frustrated citizens attempting to express their alarm regarding this special interest laden bill.
Spector refused to join fellow Republican Senators, who labeled the bill as ‘shameless,’ and laden with special interest awards. Instead, he chose to side with Democrat Senate leader Harry Reid (D- Nevada). You remember him, he is the same guy who told our troops in Iraq that we “lost the war.”
It is time to fire Spector. As for myself, I plan on financially supporting Spector’s primary opponent in 2010. If Spector decides to retire in the coming months, Senate minority leader McConnell should relieve him now of any of his committee minority leadership positions.
Conservative Republicans were within 17,000 votes of eliminating in him in 2004. It is time for Arlen Spector to go.
