Christianity and News in Christian perspectives : ChristianMirror - Media still not reporting corruption and use of our tax dollars to win healthcare votes

Major media groups such as USA Today, the New York Times, NBC television, ABC news, the Washington Post and many others continue to underreport about the ‘deal making’ with Congress members regarding the healthcare legislation that was passed in Washington on Sunday night.

House Democrat leaders used your tax dollars to cajole fellow Democratic Representatives into voting for the trillion dollar health care bill that closely passed (219-212) the House last night. Republicans have vowed to present information of these backroom ‘deals’ once the details of the full legislation are made public.

This is a sad moment in the long legislative history of this country. The federal government has been reaching into areas of commerce it has no business being involved in, such as the housing industry, the car industry, the energy industry and now our health care system. Founding fathers such as Jefferson, Adams and Madison would be appalled to see what is happening today. All three warned us of excessive and intrusive government.

Jefferson once said, “A wise and frugal government which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government.”

Jefferson understood that government is supposed to be limited in scope. It is to be accountable to the people – not the people accountable to big government.

Yet just last week, Congress received over 100,000 calls per hour. Most of these calls were ignored. Many House members had their phones rolled over to lines that were full and would not take messages. Just last weekend, there were thousands of Americans milling inside the halls of Congressional office buildings. These concerned citizens drove long distances in an attempt to reach their members in person. Office staff was wary of contact from the public, despite the fact that they are the same taxpayers that pay the salaries of these same federal workers. Hundreds of thousands of these ordinary citizens are deeply frustrated that House members would simply not respond to their call to be heard.

Concerned citizens get it. They realize just how expensive and costly socialized medicine will be. They also understand that with the government taking over 1/7^th of our economy, our healthcare system will never be the same.

Nevertheless, Speaker Pelosi and President Obama were overly anxious to pass this (healthcare) bill. They were so anxious that they informed their staff days ago that the House vote should be done before members head back to their districts (come Easter). Pelosi was especially afraid of the heat that her members would feel from their constituents during the upcoming holiday break.

Still, the major media refuses to objectively report on the back room and sweetheart deals that Pelosi and Obama offered various House Democrat party members. The truth will eventually be disclosed on these shady dealings, but the Democrats are hoping that by then it will be too late. They are hoping that people will forget. When the dirty deals are uncovered, just don’t expect to read it in the New York Times or hear it on MSNBC.
